When I was 11, my family and I lived out in the country in Benton County, MS. I went to VBS that summer. The pastor and his wife had 2 boys and they kind of took me under their wing.
Of course, back then, there was no such thing as a copy machine, so I hand wrote the books of the Bible for all the kids attending VBS. I think I could have said them forward and backwards by the time I finished. I was saved that summer and baptized in a pond with my mom.
We moved to Memphis, TN when I was in the 7th grade. I went to church faithfully all during my high school days.
Unfortunately, I was not faithful for a long while and did not attend the way I should. My sons and I did attend church, but I was never a worker at church.
We started coming to the village in 1985 and moved here in 1993 and 1994. We started going to Balboa Baptist Church and I still was not a worker. We moved away in 2002 and moved back in 2006. By then, Coronado was just beginning and most of the people we had known at Balboa were now at Coronado. That became our new family. I became more involved with various areas in the church. I helped teach 1-3 grade, took on the job as In-reach/Fellowship chairperson and finally as assistant Treasurer with Julia Crane. After her death, I became Treasurer. I served from 2022 until 2024. I had a few medical problems and felt I wasn’t doing all I should for the church so I resigned.
I had worked in the accounting department in various jobs so was somewhat knowledgeable about paying bills and budgeting. After the former Financial Secretary retired, I felt I could help the church with my knowledge.
I try to do the best I can for our church. I love my church and church family.
