Dr. Dennis Phelps
Although my family attended church when I was a child and I was baptized at a young age, I did not become a Christ-follower until I was 16 years old. It was on a Sunday night, stopped at a red light at the corner of Sherrouse and DeSiard Ave in Monroe, LA. In a few moments the reality of my sinfulness and the gospel of Jesus’s sinless life, sacrificial and substitutionary death on the cross, and actual resurrection became personal and real. My life changed. Please don’t misunderstand – I did not become perfect in any sense. However, I did become alive and forgiven, and my relationship with God through His only Son, Jesus, began. I testified to this experience the next Sunday at my local church and a few weeks later, on Easter Sunday in 1972 I was baptized as a new believer in Jesus Christ.
I have served Christ as sound technician for a traveling Christian music group, an itinerant evangelist, pastor, associate pastor, executive pastor, interim pastor, Christian children’s home program director, and seminary professor. I have been a Bible conference leader, crusade preacher, camp pastor, retreat leader, and conference speaker. I have contributed to four books, published sixteen articles (in popular magazines and professional journals), presented 30 workshops, lectured at 8 universities and seminaries (including Baylor, Gordon-Conwell, Moody, SBTS, NOBTS) in four countries. I have known ups and downs, joys and disappointments, thrills and heartbreaks, victories and defeats, successes and failures, seasons of growth and of stagnation. Still, to His glory, the adventure with Jesus continues after more than 50 years together.
I have been blessed with one wife (Robbin), two married children (Kristen, married to Jarod; David, married to Emily), and six grandchildren (living in Conway). We have lived in Louisiana, Texas, Minnesota, Kentucky, and Arkansas. I have been able to preach Jesus in each of these states, as well as California, Nevada, Colorado, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Central America, India, Israel, England, East Asia, Belarus, and Indonesia. Through it all Christ has remained faithful, gracious, trustworthy, compassionate, and true.
It is my joy now to serve the Christ-followers here in Hot Springs Village known as Coronado Baptist Church. When you visit us, please introduce yourself to me after the service!
